My Remix of Grimms fairytale The Donkey

There was a boy who was born into a wealthy family and had everything that he wanted except his family's attention. He was loved dearly by his parents and he loved them but he thought that they did not spend enough time with him because he was an only child and thought that they did not like him because he had pimples all over his face and so was not perfect as he thought in his own mind. The young man grew up and wanted to go out on his own without the help of his parents so he left his money and luxeries behind and went out to explore the world. He took his favorite music instrument with him his cellphone which he had downloaded enough music on his phone that he wouldn't have to be without his music. The young man put on his oldest jeans and old boots and went out in the world to make his own way in the world. He came upon a small store in town and went in to ask for a job. The old man who owned the store hired him immeadiately because he thought the young man had an honest face and he needed someone to help his daughter out in the store. The old man invited him to his house and offered him a spare room in his house until he could afford his own place. The young man thanked him and said I will work very hard for you in your store. The old man asked his daughter to come down stairs to meet her new empoyee and coworker and sit down to dinner. The young man was overwelmed by this blonde haired geeneyed beauty and gasped as she came down the steps. The old man noticed this and said do find my daughter attractive, the young man said yes I do. The old man told the young man that his daughter is very picky and you may not be her type but you are welcome to talk to her if you want. The months went by and the young man and the old man's daughter fell in love after working together closely for so long. The two young people decided to get married but the old man asked them where are you gonna get the money to get your own place. The old man said I don't have a lot of money to give you because I need my savings for my retirement. The young man said I wil call my parents and ask them for the money. The old man and his daughter were shocked because he had told them he was very poor. The young man told them don't worry my family is actually very wealthy and we will live very well. The young man's parents welcomed him and his new bride back with open arms and gave them everything they asked for. The two would live happily ever after.

The Donkey

The story was about a King and Queen who had no children and were not able to have children. The Queen was not going to give up on her wish to have a child so she prayed day and night and asked God to please send her a child. The story is set in a 16th century castle in Europe probably in Germany. The story was published in 1812 with many other stories in Grimm Brother Book in German was called Kinder-und Hausmarchen or in English Childrens and Household Tales. The Queen and King were blessed with a child after many nights of praying to God when the Queen gave birth to a son. They were a little disappointed because there son came out as a baby donkey. The Queen was not pleased and wanted to throw the child into the water so that the fishes might eat it. The king did not feel that way and sayed since God gave them this child he would raise it as his heir to his throne. The Donkey grew up proper and became a prince and was a very happy donkey. The Prince loved music and learned to play the lute and was quite good at playing this instrument. 

The Donkey after seeing his reflection in a pond was upset and wanted to travel the world for awhile to reflect on his life. He took his faithful companion the lute with him for companionship until he came upon a kingdom. The kingdom was ruled by an old King and his beautiful daughter. The donkey knocked on the gate of the castle but nobody answered so he sat down and played his lute over and over until the gate was opened. The Kings servant invited the donkey in and they were taken to the king and all the servants laughed at him. The king wanted the donkey to eat with the servants and the donkey refused. The donkey said to the King that he was no common stable ass and that he is of noble one. The donkey wanted to sit with the king and the king agreed and let him sit by his side.

The King asked the donkey how do you like my daughter and the donkey said she pleases me above measure. The donkey said he had not seen anyone as beautiful as she. The king smiled and told the donkey to please sit next to her. They all had a good time in each others company and when it was over the donkey became sad because he knew he would have to return back to his own kingdom. The king saw this unhappiness in the donkey and offered him all sorts of riches to make him happy but that did nothing to please the donkey. The king then offered his daughter to be the donkey's bride and the donkey was very happy. The king thru them a lavishly beautiful wedding and sent them to their wedding suite after the wedding was over. The king was curious how the donkey would behave with his daughter and sent one of his servants to hide in the room and spy on them and report to the king the next day. The donkey and his bride got in the room and the donkey looked around and then locked the door. He threw off his skin and became a handsome young man and showed his bride who he really was. The princess was very pleased and loved him the rest of the night. The king came and asked his daughter how she felt about the donkey and was sure she would be sad about the nights events but she told her father she was quite pleased. The king was surprised by her response and then asked the servant to reveal what had happened. The servant revealed everything that went on that night about the donkey pealing away his skin and turning to a handsome man. The servant suggested that the king go and see for himself and then take the donkey skin away and burn it so that the young man would have to reveal his true self. The king came late at night and saw the young man in the bed with and saw the donkey skin on the ground. He took the skin and made a large fire where he burned the skin until it was ashes. 

The morning came and the young man was shocked and full of anxiety that his skin was not there and decided to leave the kingdom. The young man went outside and the king was waiting there for him and said why are you leaving, The king offered the young man half of his kingdom if would stay and after my death all of the kingdom would be yours. The young man excepted and the old king died a year later and he had the kingdom also later on his real father died and he inherited that kingdom as well and lived well off the rest of his life.

The social themes in this story are many but there are three main social themes that make this story interesting. The first one is about his parents who wished and prayed for a child and got a donkey instead. The quote which say's " Be careful what you wish for because you might just get it" It shows that wishing for things can be good but you may not like the results even when you get what you want. The second main theme when the donkey reveals himself to his bride by pealing off his skin and showing a handsome young man underneath. The princess had already excepted him for who he was which shows the beauty is only skin deep but he was not satisfied with himself enough as the donkey and revealed his true self underneath the donkey skin which could be interpreted as his inner beauty. The third theme I got from this story is that he received both kingdoms in the end which shows " Patience is a virtue" and if you seek happiness you shall find it.

Master Lock Commercial

The Master Lock commercial narrative is about how durable its master lock is even under the most strenuous situations. The Commercial pitted the Master Lock against an expert marks man who would demonstrate that even a bulls eye shot could not open the master lock. The second key shot in the commercial was when the bullet in slow motion is shown striking the Master lock square in the middle of the lock and even after penetrating the lock it appeared to be unbroken. The third key moment in the commercial is when tryed to shake the master lock and despite this high powered rifle bullet hitting the lock the could not open the Master lock. I think that the advertisers wanted to demonstrate to it's audience that the Master lock is as tough and rugged as America and will always be durable and long lasting no matter what test you put it through.

The archetype of this Master lock commercial is showing us good vs evil where the clash of forces that represent goodness with those that represent evil. The Master lock is the good force which is durable and unbreakable despite facing it opposing force the bullet which represents the evil and struggle in our everyday life. The Master lock is up for the challenge and willing to take on the most extreme obstacles and secure whatever the customer needs secured. The ad is outdated for today's generations and needs a more gritty urban conflict such as someone living in the city trying to keep there selves or family safe and they are faced with a burglar who is bent on entering the apartment or house. The master lock could be used to secure the property's entrance or a safe which holds valuables that are precious to only the owner of the property. The Master lock shows even through the decades it has been around nothing penetrates a master lock no matter what the future may bring.

Xerox Monks Commercial

The monks in the xerox commercial represent the communication of the old world and how people in our past had to face those challenges in their slow methodical way. The first key shot in this story is the monk straining his eyes after painstakingly transcribing a copy of a text under very low light conditions. The second key shot in this commercial is of the monk brother dominic meeting with his superior and being praised for his transcribing skills as he had finished a document that his superior had asked him to finish but wanted to ask brother dominic if he could make 500 more copies. The third most key shot was when brother dominic meets up with the xerox professional to plead him to please do a large job with this new technology. The advertisers chose this story to demonstrate how the new technology can make a difference in anyones life no matter how far in the past your living. The future is there to bring us out of the darkness and into the light of technological advancement and move our society forward.

The archetype in this commercial is the Hero which could be represented by the monk who struggles to solve a problem and come up with a better solution. The xerox representative who helps the monk could also become the hero because he is the solution the monk needs to resolve his big copy job problem.

The story of the old world being brought into the light of new technology could be improved for today's audience by having the monk represented by a old executive stuck in old world of snail mail and a young person introducing him to the new world of email,social networks,and live streaming. I think this would appeal to younger audiences who are tech savvy but show the corporate world that it can improve its productivity by adopting new and faster ways of communicating.

The Jeep commercial Portraits

The Jeep commercial Portraits narrative is its long and varied world history for the past seventy five years and how it has been the vehicle of so many key moments in our history for the past seventy five years. The first photos of millitary soldiers and who have used this jeep to survive there struggles of war and loss. The second key shot that captures my attention is the photo of an astronaut and a famous aviation hero Amelia Earhart which demonstrates jeeps witnessing of our triumphant moments in history. The third key shot shows the jeep of today after showing so many of its predecessors throughout the commercial. 

I think advertisers chose this way to tell the story of jeep is to bring our emotions into the foreground while showing us the significant moments of our history that jeep has witnessed together with us. The product is tough,independent,durable just like our culture and the human experience. I think that the mentor would be a good arhetype for this jeep commercial because it is there to guide us through tough events,stand with us in our struggles or loss and give us independence of movement as we explore our world.

Jeeps big idea is that we are tied to our vehicles on a emotional level and they help define who we are as a culture and what drives us. The star moment of this commercial would be the ending sequence of photo's of the past jeeps and there progress toward the future. It is also the photo's of the people which tie jeep to its history and end the commercial with a quote "We don't make jeep, you do". This ties jeeps history to who are culture is how they choose to live their lives thru tradition and innovation. The Jeep is part of us because we need it to move us thru our adventures and obstacle that we will always face as long as we our human.
